Here is the basic, tentative plan moving forward with our raiding schedule:

-We will clear Heroic EN this Thursday/Sunday.   After it is cleared on Sunday, we will either attempt Mythic Nythendra if we have 20 people, or put together Kara groups if we do not.

-Trial of Valor is released next week.  We will go into it first thing on Thursday and clear it on Normal.  Sunday's raid will depend on how Thursday goes.  Ideally, we will clear both raids on Heroic, but that's a lofty goal.  We will at least clear Heroic EN for the gear.

-We will continue to farm both raids on Heroic until the end of December.  We will give Mythic a shot here and there when we have the people and the time.***

-We will not raid on Thursday, November 24th because of Thanksgiving.  We will raid on that Sunday the 27th.

-By Christmas (only 7 weeks from now), I expect to be able to break from raiding until Nighthold is released.  We will still put together alt-raids on Sundays if there is enough interest during this interim.

***During this farm period, alts will be allowed into heroic farm raids on a limited basis, with these stipulations: 1)your main character has an ilvl over 870; 2)your alt's ilvl is over 845; 3)the raid can function with all necessary roles and is not wiping. If wipes occur, we will begin replacing alts with mains.  Bringing an alt to a raid means you accept that you may be asked to switch back to your main at any time and will be expected to finish the raid.

Update:

All sources indicate that Trial of Valor is significantly overtuned when compared to the gear that it drops.  It's basically the Raid version of Karazhan: a challenge for the sake of the challenge and not much else.  Currently, at least.

THEREFORE, we will still be going in and doing normal ToV tonight to give the place a look.  I expect to get the first two bosses down (though Guarm may prove difficult), but I have very little hope for downing Helya even on Normal mode at the moment.  After tonight, we will continue to prioritize heroic EN farming, as the gear is better, and we will slowly work our way through heroic ToV as we see fit.

That is, unless they change the tuning and/or increase the ilvl of gear dropped.

Update #2:

In case you missed it at the raid last night, here's the announcement - we're done raiding until Nighthold!  We're going on break a week earlier than planned, because, you know, fuck it!

We've had a solid first tier of raiding for the expansion, and it's time to stretch our legs and cut that shit the fuck out for a while, so when Nighthold is released we'll be ready to go!

If your gear is not where you want it to be (above ilvl 870 is preferred for starting Nighthold), then make sure you keep doing some Mythic+ stuff, world emissary quests, etc.

The week Nighthold is released, we will raid THREE times, on TUESDAY, Thursday, and Sunday, like we did when Emerald Nightmare was released.  It worked out very well for us then, hopefully it works out well for us this time.  After that first week, we'll be back to two nights a week.

From what I can find on the magical internet, Nighthold looks to be release in late January or early February.  In the meantime, get some rest!

Edit:

Don't forget that there's a questline for "unlocking" Nighthold!  I don't believe there's an official attunement, but I'm sure there will be benefits to having the questline complete before beginning the raid.

They heard we had stopped raiding, so they nerfed the raid...

  • Reduced Odyn's health by 10% on all difficulties.
  • Reduced Hyrja and Hymdall's health by 20% on all difficulties.
  • Hymdall and Hyrja now once again leave the arena at 85% on Heroic difficulty during Stage 2.

Guarm
  • Reduced Health by 10% on all difficulties.
  • Reduced damage dealt by Headlong Charge by 10% on all difficulties. This change does not apply to Trample.
  • Reduced damage dealt by Flame Lick on impact on Mythic difficulty by 5%.

Helya
  • Reduced the health of Bilewater Slime, Night Watch Mariner, and Helya by 10% and Grimelord by 15% in the Helya encounter in Trial of Valor on all difficulties.
  • Reduced the number of Taint of the Sea debuffs applied to players on Mythic difficulty by 1.

I don't want to give up on Trials of Valor, why can't we keep doing Heroic Odyn while we wait for Nighthold?

Because human beings can only withstand so much torture before breaking, and it's necessary to take breaks in order to maintain not enthusiasm, but simple mental sanity.

So shut up, doofus.
